Niagara Falls Canada Visitor Requirements

United States Residents

Although a passport is the ideal identification for U.S. Residents, you do not require a passport or visa to enter Niagara Falls Canada, if you are traveling by car.

Effective January 23, 2007, all U.S. citizens traveling by air to and from Canada are required to have a valid passport to enter the United States.

Please review the U.S. Department of State Tips for Travelers to Canada Guide.

As early as January 1, 2008, U.S. citizens traveling between the United States and Canada by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security.

U.S. Residents may locate your closest U.S. Passport Office, by typing in your mail address zip code.

When traveling to Niagara Falls Canada by car, make sure you carry identification to establish your citizenship such as a state-issued Birth Certificate and 2 forms of indentification with a least one ID card that has a photo ( a driver’s license, voter’s registration card or Social Security card are NOT valid proof of U.S. Citizenship ).

If you are a naturalized United States Citizen, you should carry this certificate.

Alien permanent residents of the United States must present their Alien Registration Card, commonly called a "Green Card".

Although it is rare, Niagara Falls Canada Immigration officials may prevent the entry of visitors:

  1. Who appear to pose a health risk.
  2. Those they doubt will be able to support themselves and their dependents in Niagara Falls Canada.
  3. Whose willingness and means to return to the United States is in doubt.

As well, those admissible to Niagara Falls Canada must not have a criminal record.

This includes any convictions for driving while intoxicated.
